Altitude Adjustment
For a client who knows her own taste, a truly customized home designed to ensure fuss-free alpine living and connection to nature – all in tailored, luxurious style. Though 7,000 square feet, the home features just three bedrooms, thanks to its owner’s insistence on providing only what she needs, and nothing more. Instead, square footage is devoted to highly individualized spaces connected by a glass passageway joining rooms to one another, and to an interior courtyard. Along with stunning mountain panoramas, the glass-lined courtyard fulfills a wish to feel indoors and out are one.
In the entry hall, customized elements include an ice inspired glass light fixture, and a SHIIR rug – one of many in the home. A primitive Asian antique table is another highlight.
Walnut figures prominently in the house, as seen in the kitchen. The client requested a kitchen laid out nearly identical to the one in her primary residence – and we were happy to oblige. A tightly edited mix of materials and textures defines the design of the dining table.
Fully retractable glass walls blur the distinction between indoors and out, creating a sense of peace and tranquility as one moves through the house – and outstanding flow for entertaining.
An indoor lap pool is one of several, highly customized spaces specific to the owner’s unique desires. A SHIIR Rugs stair runner is another customized touch.
In a nod to the owner’s practical nature, this 7,000 square foot home includes just three bedrooms – no more than that were necessary. Cozied by a SHIIR rug, tailored furnishings and display space, and a stone fireplace, it offers elegant respite after a day of outdoor activity.
A chunky stone countertop strikes a contemporary note and furthers the linear aspects of the house. A deep soaking tub is enveloped in Vals quartzite, first spied by the owner during a visit to a Swiss spa. The stone is used both inside the house and out, creating continuity of materials – a key component of its design.
Visible throughout the house, an exterior courtyard satisfies the owner’s desire to be able to experience nature even while indoors. Continuity of materials – a key component of its design.
