A Color Revolution

Our clients are expressing an interest in color the likes of which we haven’t seen in ages – and we welcome it! While we’ve always been drawn to the muted elegance of neutral palettes, we’re certainly excited about this evolution and its endless possibilities.

Color can serve countless purposes, but one of its most important roles is as scene-setter. A splash of red can spark energy or warmth; a dash of yellow can’t help but instill cheerful optimism. And a playful mix of colors can convey a whole range of joyful emotions and brighten a room. At the other end of the spectrum, a monochromatic treatment can infuse a room with intimate elegance.

A dynamic range of blues set the tone for this Southern sitting room.

A restrained living room with a pop of vibrant colors.

Some of our more recent work has made thoughtful use of unexpected colors: an eye-popping citrine bench at the foot of a primary suite bed; the steely blue tones of a Southern sitting room; and a panoply of vibrant hues in a colorfully-accented, but otherwise restrained, living room. We’ve enveloped a coral-punctuated den in walls of peacock blue, cheered a child’s bedroom with punchy polka dot drapery, and upholstered much of an empty nest with teals and rusty reds.

“People want something that will make them smile and be happy.” (Martin Horner)

Laying the groundwork for many of our design schemes are SHIIR rugs. Of course, we’re into SHIIR’s ever-versatile blues and grays – but right now, we’re just as likely to use color on the floor. SHIIR makes that easy, since each rug is custom, and can be woven in any colors imaginable. Still, SHIIR’s standard colorway offerings are expanding, too: we love Tellen in Aubergine and Wildwood; Cru in Blue Moon; and Glyph HT in Raspberry—all are dynamic enough to become a “wow” factor in any room. This philosophy crops up where you least expect it, as in a custom Breton rug in navy blue and citrine that we used as a billiard table cover.

You can see why our designers love creating new ways for clients to express their individual personalities through color. What could be more inspiring than that?
