Design Inspiration
Pantone 2022’s Color of the Year: Very Peri
Described as spritely, joyous and dynamic by The Pantone Color Institute, ‘Very Peri’ seemed at first glance to be an unconventional choice. But now we find ourselves embracing this cheerful, yet serene hue and expect to see more of it in housewares, furnishings and fashion.
At SHIIR Rugs, we understand designers’ needs – because we’re designers ourselves. Our unique understanding of the challenges designers face allows us to layer innovative designs with an insider’s perspective on the role rugs play in a design scheme. Beyond beauty, of course, there are issues such as budget, lead time, and functionality – to name just a few of the considerations we can easily help designers address.
Starry Starry Night
As part of our quarterly team outing, we ventured out together to the Lighthouse Artspace in the Germania Club Building to experience the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit. A dreamy visual and auditory submersion from the moment you step into the space, we witnessed VanGogh’s iconic art in a larger than life scale against a perfectly orchestrated soundtrack. With each reenacted brushstroke, we were invited to take a journey through the artist’s genius art-making process.
Naples Tables
In our ongoing commitment to philanthropy, each year we participate in The League Club’s signature fundraising event, Naples Tables. This year, more than sixty designers, including Martin Horner, designed spectacular and imaginative tablescapes to raise critical funds to support the environment, education, children and families. The theme? “The Goodness of Gathering.” In light of where the world has been for the past two years, it couldn’t have been more appropriate. Click here to read more about the event at Naples Daily News.
Our 20th anniversary last year was a reminder we wouldn’t be where we are today without our exceptional team members. In addition to their roles in our growth and success, many individuals and organizations outside of Soucie Horner have joined us on this fantastic journey. Cultivating and nurturing relationships with them has led to both repeat clients and new opportunities – such as our first international commercial project. A direct result of trust earned on previous collaborations with the same stateside clients, we’re delighted to be expanding our boundaries in more ways than one! Stay tuned for more developments.

Shea’s Book Club for Kids
With a full calendar both professionally and personally, finding downtime to read can be a challenge. Children’s books? Well, that’s another story. For Shea, winding down with a book with her four children became the perfect ritual to end the night. A few favorite picture book authors include Oliver Jeffers, The Fan Brothers and of course, the inimitable Margaret Wise Brown. Shea recommends browsing your local bookstore, finding the children’s corner, and settling in to read the titles that have piqued your kids’ interests. 57th Street Books in Hyde Park always has an abundant selection of titles and is one of Shea’s family’s favorites.
Martin’s Book Club
While Martin relishes that moment he discovers a first edition book at a flea market, he finds his local go-to, Unabridged Bookstore, a comparable experience. Established more than forty years ago, it’s easy to fall in love with this local gem. Located in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood, this bibliophile’s dream has an unparalleled selection of books from all genres and written recommendations from their expert staff throughout. Martin’s book choice of the moment? Yves Saint Laurent Museum Marrakech, a tribute to the design collaboration between Pierre Bergé and Studio KO.
