Summerhouse Lavender Farm
While we love easy access to the adventures Saugatuck has to offer, there are times when what we’re really craving is some serious zen. Whenever we have a bit too much tension, are ready for some deep relaxation, or simply want to breathe in some beauty, we know exactly where to go during your stay at Wickwood Inn – Summerhouse Lavender Farm.
“The more tranquil a man becomes, the greater is his success, his influence, his power for good. Calmness of mind is one of the beautiful jewels of wisdom.”
~ James Allen
With nearly a thousand lavender plants in seven different varieties, this one acre farm is our happy place. Simply breathing in the lavender scented air brings about a change in mood, but Summerhouse Farm also has peaceful gardens and fountains to enhance our sense of calm.
We love the Japanese garden, the perennials and rock garden, the calming music of the fountain, and the swath of birches and boulders that are integrated into our lavender experience. There are so many special places to walk, to sit, and to connect with nature in a peaceful, lavender scented environment.
We’re especially excited to see the farm burst into bloom! Lavender typically blooms at the end of June and for the month of July, so there’s lots of opportunity to see Summerhouse in full splendor. Of course, something this magnificent deserves its own party … Bloom Festival is July 7-8 & 14-15. There’s lots to celebrate and the festivities will include:
- Lavender bouquets to take home to dry and enjoy;
- Wreath making with Mike and friends;
- Distilling demonstrations to make essential oil using our hand-hammered copper still;
- Planting directions: how to plant and maintain healthy lavender;
- Tours of the lavender, the zen garden, and the waterfall;
- Massage;
- Places just to sit and do nothing but enjoy the sights and smell of lavender all around you;
- Aromatherapy products with Summerhouse’s own lavender essential oil and Serene Garden blend made to reduce anxiety.
If you’re unable to attend the festival, no worries. Summerhouse Lavender Farm will have its amazing products on hand whenever you visit. The Serene Garden Lotion, Pure Lavender Candles, and house made Essential Oils are sure to pamper and delight. The Lavender Honey? So delicious in coffee, on oatmeal, over vanilla ice cream, and just about everything else.
“Remain calm, serene, always in command of yourself. You will then find out how easy it is to get along.”
~ Paramahansa Yogananda
