You can order anytime. But don’t ignore the selection of soups, salads, pastas and sandwiches. You won’t be disappointed. Check the specials listed on the chalkboards and come with cash. No credit cards here. The booths, or the seats at the counter, are our favorite spots to sit. If you’re more in the mood for the best scratch margarita in town, head directly to The Southerner. You’ll taste Chef Millar’s commitment to the freshest and best ingredients no matter what you order.

2. Stroll Down Butler Street | Shop Downtown Saugatuck
Our little downtown is packed with unique specialty stores, galleries, restaurants, coffee shops, bars and more. Pick out something sweet at Kilwins. Lose track of time as you browse through the art galleries. See the outdoor apparel, accessories and shoes at Landsharks. Wander through the unique gifts, accessories and fine art at Good Goods. Take a break and enjoy an espresso or fresh juice at Uncommon Coffee Roasters.

5. Award Winning Dining | Dinner At Bowdies Chophouse
We agree with MLive Food Critic, George Aquino. Bowdies is THE Grand Rapids area restaurant you should visit in 2016. Better yet, it’s right in downtown Saugatuck! The inside is both cozy and lively. Weather permitting, the restaurant nearly doubles inside with its outdoor deck and porch. Start with the Pan Seared Scallops or the Shrimp Cocktail, but do not skip the Truffle Fries. The Cowboy Ribeye is a steak to remember and the Roasted Half Chicken pleases every time. Make sure you have a reservation, as this place fills up quickly. Didn’t plan ahead? No worries. Try one of our other fantastic Saugatuck restaurants: Phil’s, Grow, Pumpernickel’s, Hercules, or The Southerner … just to name a few.

Downtown Saugatuck does not have any typical chain stores. Be sure to visit Good Goods for items showcasing the finest hand-made in America. Landsharks carries great shoes and apparel for active people. Olive Mill, Spice Merchants and American Spoon offer specialty food items and lots of samples. Chantal’s collection of boutiques feature great labels for both men and women’s apparel. The assortment of vintage and retro collectables at Swell Times may make you giggle. Try Amaru Leather for a beautifully handcrafted leather accessory. VolMod for a custom pottery plate or vase. Don’t miss James Brandess Studios & Gallery. You may find the perfect painting to always remind you of this vacation.
Walk along the docks. Stop at a picnic table. Hop on a swing. Search for the next piece of sculpture.
If by now you’ve worked up a bit of an appetite, try Lucy’s Little Kitchen for their handcrafted cocktails, local beers, wines, and ciders. Everything’s made from scratch at this fresh and lively eatery. Saugatuck Drug Store still stands proudly on the corner, and yes . . . they do serve a REAL chocolate soda at the counter in the back. Order one with two straws. It’s sure to make you smile. If an ice cream cone is what you’re after, you won’t have to walk far. There are many options. Our favorite? Charlie’s Round The Corner.
