There Are So Many Ways To Warm Up At Wickwood Inn After Playing In The Snow!
With the return of frosty winter air in Michigan, at our Saugatuck hotel guests reach for something warm and fuzzy. They find a furry blanket in their bedroom to snuggle up in. A sip of hot ginger tea to soothes their bones. It’s their chance to bring out their favorite cozy sweaters and scarves. Those comfy items we store until winter’s return, wrap around us once again like a warm long-lost friend.
Finding warmth isn’t limited to a favorite blanket or a hot cup of tea. Perhaps you want to create some warm memories with a loved one or warm your heart with an unforgettable experience? Winter becomes the season of comforts, and in Saugatuck, Michigan there’s no shortage of opportunities to find something comforting here!
“The glow of one warm thought is, to me, worth more than money.”
~ Thomas Jefferson
Warm up by creating memories with loved ones
As you plan your getaway, keep this in mind: you’re not alone! If arranging something romantic seems hard for you, then we can help. Give the innkeepers at our Saugatuck bed and breakfast a call! We are happy to arrange for special packages, gift certificates, date nights or flowers to be included in your stay. The Wickwood Inn staff happily makes suggestions of local favorites and merchants that would make your stay perfect. Want flowers, chocolate covered strawberries and champagne in your room on arrival? That is sure to get things heated up!
A Few Suggestions To Get Things Going
Warming someone’s heart is all about first impression, so once we set the stage at the Inn for your arrival, ask about how it can be even better. Arrange a romantic carriage ride through town on your way to dinner at a cozy local restaurant. We love, Bowdies Chophouse. The owners brought with them from Chicago the love of a great steakhouse, and have embedded that classic, intimate experience into our community. After a great steak dinner, head on over to the Saugatuck Centre for the Arts for one of their many fantastic live events. Our two-day film festival comes in March which is a perfect time to experience the real love of the arts in Saugatuck!
Explore the area with your loved one. Feel the romantic warmth, be it afternoon or evening. Take a ‘cider’ stroll over to Crane’s Pie Pantry Restaurant & Winery and enjoy a piece of pie and warm mulled cider. Their pie is so delicious, perhaps that romantic stroll can be reminisced by having Crane cater your wedding one day with their wedding pies! Another local favorite for cider is Virtue Cider – making craft cider with 100% Michigan apples.
Stuck for planning that getaway? Give us call at 1-800-385-1174 and the Innkeepers can arrange it for you!
Warm up at the Inn
In case you hadn’t noticed, we love good food at Wickwood Inn, and in the winter, we keep it coming all day long! We start the day warm with our luxurious 3-course farm-to-table breakfast. It features Pecan Sticky Buns, Ethereal Scrambled Eggs, Glazed Country Ham and many more locally harvested and ‘fresh from the oven’ delights. Come back to the Inn for a break from touring Saugatuck for Afternoon Sweets. Enjoy the best chocolate chip cookies ever – still warm from the oven! Grab a hot mug of coffee or tea, a warm and fuzzy book and take a seat by the fire in the gathering room. If you’re lucky, and smart, you reserved one of Wickwood’s suites with a fireplace. You now meander back to your room for a mid-afternoon snooze because you chose the option of a cozy featherbed!
“Love keeps the cold out better than a cloak.”
~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Join us for an hour at 6pm for Evening Sips & Small Plates. Savor warm conversation with new friends alongside some favorites from our charcuterie board. Enjoy hot soup in a bowl or as shots (yes, soup shots!) before you head out on a romantic carriage ride. Explore the streets of charming downtown Saugatuck bundled up, or retire to your room for a cozy night in. Don’t forget Evening Sweets where our glass globes by the fire will be filled with something sweet like Almond Bark or Brownie Bites! And may we suggest trying a splash of St. Steve’s Elderberry Cordial from our friends at Mud Lake Farms in your ginger tea to warm you up? Trust us, you won’t regret it!
Warm up in town
After you arrange to warm your loved ones’ heart and you fill your souls and stomachs with all warm things at Wickwood Inn, copious options await you downtown!
Try one of the best cups of coffee in town, by a company that values sustainability and relationships with their growers. Uncommon Coffee Roasters is the place you need to pop into for fresh brew coffee! What started as a café, has now become a wholesale coffee bean roaster and brewing company in Saugatuck. Uncommon is the hotspot in town for great conversation and great coffee! Our go-to is a warm muffin and latte. If you love it – you can get a subscription to have their coffee beans shipped to your door!
“Do you know how helpless you feel if you have a full cup of coffee in your hand and start to sneeze?”
~ Jean Kerr
Maybe hot chocolate in wintertime is more your thing. We highly recommend visit to downtown Douglas where Respite Cappuccino Court creates a luscious hot chocolate from European chocolate! They offer mocha and coffee concoctions as well. If you are in the mood for a snack, the staff and baristas will ensure you have a delicious homemade meal whether you are sustainable, carnivore, vegan or vegetarian!
Saugatuck Tea Company’s owner, Gina, has a 30-year passion for tea and the benefits of herbs and flowers. Her tea shop cafe is a place where people of all ages enjoy a cup of tea. Their amazing selection of teas, specialty gifts and delicious macarons are not quickly forgotten!
