It doesn’t matter if we lace up our favorite boots or slide on a pair flip-flops … during the fall in Saugatuck, every day is a great day to get outdoors. Wickwood Inn is the perfect place to launch all activities during your fall getaway. Our dunes and beaches, trails and waterways, vineyards and orchards, fall colors and spectacular sunsets are just steps outside our door. And, our knowledgeable and friendly staff are here to help you plan the perfect day. No matter what the weather or what your mood, Saugatuck’s outdoor activities are so plentiful you’re sure to find an adventure that’s right for you.

To help inspire, we’ve put together a list of 10  of our favorite Things To Do This Fall in Saugatuck.

Take things to new heights | Climb the more than 300 steps of Mt. Baldhead. While the climb itself may take your breath away, the views at the top are breathtaking and a main reason this is one of the most popular Saugatuck outdoor activities. This is the PERFECT vantage point to take in an expansive view of fall foliage!

Take it back in time | Rent a retro electric boat from the The Old Boat House. Have fun deciding which adorable vintage boat will be yours … the cute red one with the big fins? Or, the turquoise beauty with the sweet little headlights? No matter, you’re on your way to cruising the river and seeing fall splendor in style!

Take in the magnificence | Hike amidst the towering trees and dunes of the Saugatuck Dunes State Park. The variety in the ecosystem will amaze you. Be sure and watch for birds and deer as you wind your way to Lake Michigan.

Take your beach blanket & grab a book | Hitting the beach is one of our favorite Saugatuck outdoor activities in the summer, but we think that Fall is the perfect time of year to lounge in luxury at the award-winning Oval Beach. Relax. Read. Stroll for miles along the sandy shoreline. Lose track of time. If you stay long enough, the magnificent sunset will remind when it’s time to pack things up.

Take the road less traveled | Bike along our new paths and out to country roads. Take a break at an art gallery, a farm stand, an orchard, or a vineyard. Stop and have a cold pint of beer or cider. Enjoy fall colors all along the way.

Take to the water | We think one of the best ways to appreciate this area is from the water. No matter the vessel, getting on the river and lakes by canoe, kayak or stand up paddleboard is a great way to go! You’ll form a whole new appreciation for the beauty of this area and full serenity to see the fall colors.

Take in the views along Lakeshore Drive | Drive, walk, jog, bike, roller blade, or simply stop and watch the sunset. The big trees and magnificent views of the Lake Michigan all along Lakeshore Drive keep us coming back day after day.

Don’t be scared, take in the big event | Halloween’s Glow In The Park & Adult Halloween Parade are becoming two of the biggest events of the year. Get your costume ready to or simply stand by and take it all in. All season long there’s plenty of fall fun in the air. Pick apples and find the perfect pumpkin in the patch, or have fun getting lost in the Corn Maze at Crane’s.

Take to the streets … be inspired | This is the time of year when things really heat up at the more than 30 area art galleries and studios. New exhibitions, Gallery Stroll, and the Blue Coast Artist Tour are just a few of the main events. Of course, the other unique boutiques and shops throughout our quaint downtown are sure to lure you in. You don’t even need to get in the car to enjoy a full day shopping while you stroll.

Take time with the one you love the most | There’s no better way to relax and reconnect than to pack your picnic basket and stake out the perfect spot for a spectacular sunset. FarmHouse Deli, Kismet Bakery, Wine Sellers and Petter Wine Gallery will have every delicious thing needed for an expertly packed, food lovers picnic basket. Be sure and watch for the Green Flash and stay long enough to enjoy the afterglow.

Experience all of the amazing Saugatuck fall activities with a getaway to Wickwood Inn. Getting outdoors has never been easier, more delightful, nor more colorful! Reserve your guest room or suite today.
