Whether you’re in the mood for an authentic steakhouse, something with a spectacular view, or comfort fare with a southern flair, there are romantic restaurants in Saugatuck for you. We scouted out our favorite dining destinations. Let us send you in the right direction for an evening of romance.

  1. Pennyroyal Café and Provisions

One of the coziest romantic restaurants which only recently opened for dinner.  Pennyroyal Café and Provisions serves food that is lovingly prepared the old-fashioned way. Foraging nearby farms and purveyors for the freshest and most local ingredients, the menu showcases the best of western Michigan’s bounty. Seasonal dishes and fan favorites highlight the talents of executive chef, Melissa Corey, and her team of culinary experts, Bryan Kemp and Ryan Beck.

  1. The Grill Room at Clearbrook Golf Club

Located on the lush grounds of the Clearbrook Golf Club, The Grill Room Restaurant is a clear local favorite. The Grill did win “Best Casual Lakeshore Restaurant” and Wine Spectator Magazine’s “Award of Excellence” many times over.  Its focus is on home-style entrees, handcrafted cocktails, and a carefully curated wine list. As an “old school” establishment, they do recommend collared shirts and sleeves for men, but shorts and jeans are fine, too.  But, if you are looking to go to one of those romantic restaurants where you can dress up a bit, this is one.

  1. Bowdie’s Chophouse

Listen carefully to the buzz in town about Bowdie’s Chophouse.  You realize that making a reservation for this authentic steakhouse is a no-brainer. The dining experience is intimate and unique.  This makes it one of the most romantic restaurants in Saugatuck. Think white linen table cloths and candlelight. But the star, of course, is steak. In an atmosphere that is both rustic and charming, the service is a cut above. Start your evening with a drink at the bar which has a vibe of a vintage speakeasy. Then settle in for a leisurely meal and an evening of casual romantic elegance.

  1. The Southerner

With a choice location on the banks of the Kalamazoo River, The Southerner is the “go to” spot for southern hospitality and down-home cooking. It may not look fancy on the outside, but inside there’s a quiet charm and warm welcome. Menu items reference the chef’s southern heritage, which he calls “a love letter to Appalachia”. Fried chicken, shrimp and grits, and barbeque ribs are standards.  But, the adventurous try the quail, catfish, and Michigan whitefish along with creative seasonal dishes.

“One cannot think well, love well and sleep well if one has not dined well.”
~  Virginia Woolf

  1. Grow Café and Bistro

Although closed for the season until spring, Grow Café and Bistro hosts two special winter pop-up dinners featuring ethnic menus.  Their Eastern European Dinner is on Valentine’s Day weekend and Middle Eastern Meal is the last weekend in March. When they return to normal hours in the spring look for an eclectic assortment of small plates and upscale diner food.

  1. Everyday People Café

Served in an upbeat and casual atmosphere, the menu at Everyday People Café is nothing short of inventive. With a mission to serve “good food to good people”, you’ll find something to tantalize the taste buds of your favorite carnivore, herbivore, pasta lover and pescatarian. The charming but simple dining room is both stylish and

sophisticated. A warm fire in winter, and fresh flowers in spring set the tone for a perfect “first date” spot.

  1. Salt of the Earth

Bread serves as the focal point for this easy-going Fennville eatery. Baked fresh daily to accompany a wide variety of menu items, you can find Salt of the Earth breads at several retail outlets in the neighboring towns and villages. This rustic American eatery’s hallmark is “honest food & friendly folks”.  It’s underscored in their small plates, mains, and sides. An inventive cocktail menu, creative desserts, and wood-fired pizzas complete the offerings in this cozy romantic restaurant.
