This is one resolution that has been easy to keep and enjoy. That’s right. There are so many wonderful vegetarian and vegan food options all around Saugatuck. Moving towards more plant-based foods has been delightfully delicious!
Our Local Vegan Guide To Saugatuck
Here’s a round up of some of our current veg-friendly menu items from all around Saugatuck.
The Southerner | Even our friends who swear by the Nashville hot chicken and heavenly biscuits are now enjoying the new vegetarian menu items at one of our favorite local joints. The Southerner’s amazing Mushroom & Dumplings (oyster mushrooms, cabbage, carrots, and leeks with chanterelle broth) come complete with two sides. For us, the Squash Soup (pear, celery & apple cider) and the Braised Greens (tomato, garlic, & barley miso pot liquor) hit all the right notes. But then there’s the Apple Gouda Salad (Beemster gouda aged 22 months, pecans, frisbee, pickled red onion, sorghum-sherry vinaigrette. Vegan without the cheese) and the Little Gem Salad (Brown butter bread crumbs, egg, scallion, tomato, watercress dressing and Point Reyes blue cheese. Wonderful Vegan option without egg and cheese add extra veg) Delicious!
Pennyroyal | While the entire menu at Pennyroyal tempts our tastebuds, it’s easy here to go plant-based. Chef Missy knows how to make each and every vegetable sing with flavor, and the textures are always exactly right. The Shaved Vegetable Salad (Radish, Fennel, Carrot, Sunflower Seeds, Farm Lettuce, Lemon Vinaigrette) and the Farroto (Kale, Roasted Mushroom, Squash and Parmigiano Reggiano. Vegan without the Parm) are satisfying and nourishing.

Grow | So many good options at Grow Restaurant in downtown Saugatuck. The Carrot + Lentils (carrots, cabbage, greens, lentils, capers, dried cranberries + harissa vinaigrette), Avocado Toast (baguette toast, avocado crème, pico de gallo, pickled red onion, add Feta if you like), and the Mushroom Polenta (polenta with housemade stock, Michigan mushrooms, chickpeas, burrata + greens) top the list.
Farmhouse | Whenever we want a casual lunch or pick things up to go, Farmhouse is our happy place. The Vegan Banh Mi (oven roast Hawaiian tofu, pickled carrot, radish and cucumber, jalapeno, cilantro, roast garlic spread and sriracha on a Dutch crunch roll. Easily made GF by ordering on a bed of greens instead of the roll) and a Salad Trio (begin with a bed of Spring Greens or Kale Caesar and choose 3 more salads from the deli counter to layer on top. No matter what the combo, SO good) always puts us in a good mood. Of course, there’s always a Vegan Soup Du Jour with fresh bread alongside and so much more goodness from the deli case. Fresh juices. Tasty teas and coffees. Homemade sweets of every variety. Wonderful.

Guardian Brewing | Great craft beer and a menu that will surprise our vegan friends. Whether you decide on the Beyond Meat tacos (corn tortillas, green cabbage slaw, cilantro-peanut pesto, guacamole, cumin carrots, and tortilla chips), the Kale Salad (roasted squash, apple, almond-seed candy, ginger turmeric vinaigrette), or the Tofu Reuben (corned tofu, house-made sauerkraut, Russian dressing on Rye … add gruyere if you like), you’re sure to be happy and well fed.
Phil’s | A favorite downtown Saugatuck place to meet up with friends, we are still nutty for the Nutty Salad (Mixed greens with crumbled gorgonzola cheese, sliced apples, caramelized walnuts and tomatoes. Vegan Option: no gorgonzola, sub extra veg) and the Pad Thai (broccolini, shiitake mushrooms, roasted red peppers and egg tossed with rice noodles served with thai peanuts. Vegan: no egg, extra broccolini … just the way we like it)
Tree of Life | After a yoga class, or hike, or any time of day … we love stopping in downtown Saugatuck for a wellness boost at Tree of Life Juice. Yes, they have amazing cold pressed juice combinations (Immune boost is our favorite this time of year) and so much more: smoothies, wellness shots, avocado toasts (GF available), acai bowls, homemade vegan soups. You’re going to love how you feel after some time at Tree of Life.
