Get Lost In Our Village On Lake Michigan’s Shore
When you get lost here, you find something wonderful. It’s true. Saugatuck IS a small town. Or, more accurately, a village. But, there are big opportunities where we step outside and wander, daydream and lose track of time. Think about it. When is the last time you actually had the luxury of time? When was your last exploration opportunity. Where you wander wherever you want. And, take time seeing what the day might bring?
Saugatuck is the perfect place for such a day…so get lost.
There are wide, expansive, open places of spectacular beauty. There is no traffic. No matter where you go, you are safe. No matter whom you meet, folks are friendly.
So. Which adventure is for you?
“Every man’s life ends the same way. It is only the details of how he lived and how he died that distinguish one man from another.”
~ Ernest Hemingway
Perhaps you set out on a bike (or a tandem bike for two)? Just meander, get lost and see where the county roads take you. No matter the route you take, you find many amazing art galleries and studios, farm stands, orchards, vineyards, Antique stores, craft breweries and cider houses.
Maybe you like traveling travel on foot. Start at Oval Beach and explore the off-the-beaten path Singapore Harbor Natural Area. Our great Lake Michigan, the towering dunes, the channel, the beautiful trees, all are yours and yours alone.
Or, maybe the Saugatuck Dunes State Park is more your speed? Over 1,000 acres and miles of uninterrupted coastline make this a local treasure. Be sure and watch for birds and wildlife. Enjoy the change in the landscapes as you explore. The trails are magnificent and lightly travelled.
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.”
~ Helen Keller
If you want a bit more of a climb, conquer the more than 300 stairs at Mt. Baldhead. After catching your breath at the top (and taking loads of photos), choose your path back down. Don’t turn right back around and head down. Choose another chance to get lost! Wander down the back side to the trails to Oval Beach. The chance to dip your toes into our big blue beautiful lake is worth it.
If getting out the water is what calls to you, explore our waterways in many ways!
Hop in a kayak, or on a stand up paddleboard, and cruise the Kalamazoo River. Watch for Eagles, Great Blue Herons, Egrets, and more!
Charter a sailboat and let the winds determine which direction. There’s nothing like a day of sailing on Lake Michigan. The journey removes any left-over stress and tension. Your time on the Lake makes you feel as if this is a luxuriously long adventure, far away from the cares of the world.
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.
So throw off the bowlines.
Sail away from the safe harbor.
Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
~ Mark Twain
