At Wickwood Inn, we love celebrating the turn to Fall. Saugatuck is a glorious place to start a Michigan Fall Color Tour – the evenings are crisp, the days still warm, the beaches are spacious, and, right now, Lake Michigan is 73 degrees … perfect for a swim before watching a glorious sunset at our award winning Oval Beach!

And that’s just the start of what we love about Indian Summer.

Of course, at Wickwood, we have to talk about the amazing food this time of year! There are seemingly limitless things to do in Saugatuck in the Fall!

The orchards are bursting with apples of all varieties, and we just can’t get enough. Yes, we are elbow deep in baskets and bushels of apples! Honeycrisp apples greet our guests in each of Wickwood’s eleven completely customized Guest Rooms & Suites.  Then, there’s the tantalizingly delicious Apple Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce served warm as just one item in our signature amenity: Farm To Table Brunch. During our complimentary evening Sips & Small Plates, guests are raving about the Ginger Cordials … just the right amount of spice to keep everyone cozy!

When we’re not out picking apples or perusing the colorfully abundant farm markets, we LOVE losing track of time in a nearby pumpkin patch! Sure, we adore the traditional, round, orange pumpkin perfect for carving your next Jack-O’-Lantern … but these days, we delight in creating colorful stacks of green, orange, and white pumpkins. Great for decorating! Be sure and visit Crane Orchards for an idyllic afternoon of apple picking where you’re also sure to find the perfect combination of pumpkins. Oh, and save time for the 2016 Corn Maze!

Our next stop is typically at a neighboring winery or cidery. Home to more than 13,700 acres of vineyards, Michigan is proud to be the fifth largest wine grape producing state in the nation! Attracting more than 2 million annual visitors, most of Michigan’s wine grapes are grown within 25 miles of Lake Michigan because of the “Lake Effect” climate. This same climate also helps our apple orchards, and, increasingly, these apples are being turned into inventive and delicious hard apple cider. For a fun and informative vineyard tour, reserve your spot at Fenn Valley Vineyards & Wine Cellar. Just across the way, enjoy a flight of ciders at the scenic Virtue Farms. Be sure and try the Michigan Brut; we love the 4-pack option!

If you’re planning ahead for a big holiday party or other celebration, why not create something truly special for this year’s event? At Saugatuck Brewing Company you can actually brew, bottle, and label your own beer! If you don’t have time for that, be sure and stop in for a pint of Bonfire Brown, Pumpkin Chai, or anything else coming fresh from the taps that day.

And while we’re talking about big celebrations, if you have never been to Saugatuck/Douglas for Halloween, 2016 is the year to do it! Our little villages love a party, and this year’s Halloween lineup is looking spook-tastic! Things kick off on Friday, October 28 from 7 – 10 p.m. with Glow In The Park at Beery Field. Saturday, October 29 is packed with events: the family-friendly costume parade is at 4:00 p.m. in Saugatuck and the adult parade is at 10:00 p.m. in downtown Douglas.

Certainly Halloween is a highlight every fall, but September and October are packed with events. There’s the 27th Annual Blue Coast Fall Studios Tour, Salt of the Earth Harvest Series of Music, Lakeshore Harvest Country’s 10th Annual Road Rally, Fall Gallery Stroll & Chili Cookoff, Star Of Saugatuck Fall Color Boat Cruises, and so much more!

Let the luxury and comfort of Wickwood Inn be your hub for your enjoyment of Michigan’s Fall Colors and your guide for things to do in Saugatuck in the fall.
