Theresa Gray Visits Saugatuck

The talented Saugatuck artist Theresa Gray returns to Michigan next month for a pop up art exhibition at Waypost Brewing Company the week of November 25th.  And at Wickwood Inn, two of our big loves are good food and great art. So, we’re especially excited to focus on a long-time favorite artist friend of ours, Theresa Gray. She’s coming back to Saugatuck, and we are giddy that her newest works will be available to see, and purchase, at Waypost Brewing. (Of course, if you’ve ever stayed in our Matisse room, you’ve enjoyed sitting next to Theresa Gray’s feathery window!)

Throughout the many years Gray lived in Saugatuck, she was constantly creating. Her art was shown at WaterStreet Gallery, The Nines Studio and Gallery, Gebben Gray Gallery, and many other exhibition spaces.

Gray’s Life & Art In Taos

Currently, she and her husband, Peter Halter, live off-the-grid near Taos, New Mexico. They are dependent upon the sun and the rain to power their handmade home, and they are committed to forming beauty from native materials. Gray is represented by Magpie, a stunning art gallery north of the Taos Plaza.

Her newest show, titled Marking Time, is hanging in Studio 238 at The Harwood Museum in Taos. Once this exhibition is finished, Gray will pack up her paintings and drive to Michigan for a visit. We can’t wait to see her and her work!

When asked about the process of her newest works, Gray said: “They are pigment on paper, and I drew mostly with my hand. I used charcoal graphite and powder pigment in a jar. I put on a rubber glove, I would scoop it up, draw, and use a ton of eraser.”

The end result? Stunning.

Georgia Gersh, the owner of Magpie, said, “Theresa captures a spirit and movement in her work with effortless sophistication. Everyone who comes into Magpie pauses in front of her paintings to take them in, in all their subtle fierceness.
