The husband and wife team behind Saugatuck’s cozy gathering place, Borrowed Time, agree. Leaving their location in Saugatuck behind was a difficult choice, but after two years of successfully serving amazing cocktails, beer, wine, small plates, and desserts, they had already outgrown the charming house on Water Street. We loved this place … affectionately known as Saugatuck’s living room, front porch, and lawn party. Most importantly, whenever we met friends there, we always knew things were going to taste great AND we were going to have fun.

Thankfully for all of us, they aren’t moving too far away … welcome to Borrowed Time 2.0!
We cannot wait for the new spot to open, and in our eagerness, we thought we’d offer you a sneak peek at what Kim and Robert have planned at 22 E. Center Street, downtown Douglas.
Originally from Michigan, Kim and Robert met at a busy sports bar in San Francisco. While both were working on different degrees, they soon realized the restaurant industry was their passion.
Eventually, they decided it was time to quit working for other people and make their own dream a reality. A family trip brought them to Saugatuck where they fell in love with the community and saw it as the perfect place to open their own business.
We’re so glad they did!
In its original location, we loved the comfortable furniture, the up-cycled barn wood, and the lawn for games, yoga, music, or whatever else Kim & Robert had on tap. The wine list was always interesting, the cocktails always creative, and the bruschetta, flatbread, street taco, and egg roll of the day … plus homemade desserts? Always delicious. (Sweet potato, black bean, salsa verde, and feta cheese taco? You bet. Pecan cheesecake bar? Every time.)
The full on Chef’s Tasting Dinners in tandem with Golden Brown Catering Company? Memorable.
We’re delighted none of this is going away!
The new location offers an expansion of all the things we love about the original Borrowed Time. Still featuring comfy furniture and cozy throw rugs, Borrowed Time 2.0 will have high ceilings, sky lights, double the bar capacity, an outdoor patio connected by French doors, and an open kitchen.
Wow! What’s not to love?
Guests will be able to enjoy drinks and snacks on the covered porch or play games in the yard. It will also feature fire pits, live music, and chef tasting dinners with Golden Brown Co, just as they did in Saugatuck.
There is enough space inside for events and live music in the off-season. The possibilities for growth outside are endless, and Kim & Robert are beyond excited to introduce a new chef, friend Eoen Clark, who will take the small plates menu to the next level. We can’t wait to see the first draft of a menu, and Kim promises to keep us in the loop. It will be exciting to watch everything being made in the new, open kitchen, and we look forward to each and every bite.
Now that we have your attention and your tastebuds tingling, we know the big question remains: How soon do we get to enjoy all this goodness?
Borrowed Time 2.0 plans to open early-to-mid May … just in time to get things humming for their 3rd Anniversary on Memorial Day. They plan to have special events planned for the Memorial Day weekend, so stay tuned for future updates. The tentative plan is to be open 7 days a week: 12pm – 10pm Sunday – Thursday, 12pm – 11pm on the weekends.
